![PERFECT QUILTED TOTES pdf sewing pattern]()
Making these totes is the perfect way to put your scraps to work to create beautiful, structured bags! Combine a simple quilt-as-you-go technique with utility fabric to make bags that can stand on their own without the use of heavy interfacing.
The 25-page, full-color pattern comes with instructions for making two tote styles.
The Tall Tote measures 14½” tall x 10½” wide x 4” deep, and has 29" shoulder bag-style handles.
The Wide Tote measures 11½” tall x 12½” wide x 6” deep and has 16" handbag-style handles.
Details like facing inside the top of the bag and a “stay-put” lining with easy-to-sew zip and slip pockets make the finished bags both polished and useful. Instructions for installing an optional magnetic snap closure are also included.
All of the pieces you will use to complete this project are rectangular, and the instructions are written for cutting using a rotary cutter, acrylic ruler, and self-healing cutting mat.
Please refer to the pattern images for yardage requirements. The basic materials you will need are:
Patchwork fabric scraps
Scraps of print and/or solid quilting fabric including mid-weight cotton, cotton/linen, and home-décor weight cottons.
Textured solid fabric
Mid-weight fabrics including yarn-dyed cottons, cotton/linen blends such as Robert Kaufman’s Essex, chambray, and denim.
Lightweight Fusible Interfacing
A lightweight fusible interfacing will add structure to the handles and facing. Using interfacing is recommended for sturdier handles and facing, but it’s not essential.
Cotton duck or other utility fabric
Cotton duck, drill cloth, cotton canvas, or something similar in a light neutral color.
Batting
Low-loft needled cotton batting such as Warm and White or Warm and Natural. Iron-friendly fusible fleece may be substituted.
Lining fabric
Mid-weight quilting solid fabric, such as Robert Kaufman’s Kona. Use a coordinating mid-weight quilting print for the pocket lining.
